KOTA KINABALU, SABAH December 31, 2025 – The overwhelming trust placed by the people of Sabah in Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) during the 17th State Legislative Assembly Election on 29 November is seen as a clear signal that the people desire political stability and a government with a clear direction.
According to Julia ABT, Women’s Exco of Gagasan Rakyat and Committee Member of the GRS Women’s Information Bureau, this mandate is not merely an electoral victory but a sacred trust from the people to ensure Sabah continues to progress with sustainable policies and a well-defined roadmap.
GRS emerged as the largest bloc by securing 29 seats out of 73 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats, followed by Parti Warisan (25 seats). Although there was no absolute majority, GRS successfully formed the government with support from allied parties such as Pakatan Harapan (PH), UPKO, and independents, enabling Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Noor to be reaffirmed as Sabah Chief Minister on 30 November.
Julia emphasised that 2026 marks the beginning of an important phase in the implementation of Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 2.0 for the period 2026–2030. This agenda focuses on three main pillars: driving economic growth through the agriculture, industrial, and tourism sectors; strengthening human capital development and people’s wellbeing; and expanding sustainable infrastructure based on green sustainability.
Among the GRS government’s highlighted commitments are the construction of Rumah Mesra SMJ (with plans for units in every DUN constituency), financial assistance of RM300 to nearly 100,000 hardcore poor recipients, new aid for senior citizens, and incentives for first-home deposit financing. These initiatives demonstrate the government’s priority on people’s welfare and improving the living standards of lower-income groups.
The Sabah government also remains firm yet prudent in advocating for Sabah’s rights based on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), while maintaining good relations with the Federal Government under the Malaysia MADANI concept.
Julia concluded that the efforts of GRS under the leadership of Hajiji Noor reflect stable, pragmatic, and results-oriented leadership. “Sabah is now on the right track. The people have made their choice. Now is the time for the government to deliver results with wisdom, stability, and responsibility,” she said.
With strong public support, Sabah has the potential to advance further as a progressive, prosperous, and respected state within the Federation of Malaysia.
