DAMANSARA DAMAI, Aug 8 2026 — Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo today launched the Jelajah Malaysia Digital (JMD) programme at the Damansara Damai Community Hall, marking the start of a nationwide outreach series under the Malaysia Digital 2030 (MD2030) blueprint.
In a post on X, the minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Damansara, said the digital economy is expected to create 500,000 high-value job opportunities for Malaysians by 2030. He stressed that these benefits will only reach every layer of society if the digital divide is closed.
“This is one of the biggest impacts of a prosperous digital economy, and to ensure every Malaysian can enjoy its benefits, the digital divide must be narrowed and digital opportunities must reach every segment of society,” Gobind wrote.
He described JMD as the vehicle that brings the ambitious goals of MD2030 closer to the people. The programme offers practical opportunities in skills development, career pathways and entrepreneurship so that more Malaysians can participate in the digital economy.
“Even more special is that this initiative is taking place in my beloved P106 Damansara constituency. The JMD Damansara Damai edition will be the starting point for more series of tours that will realise the vision of Malaysia as a peaceful, prosperous and inclusive digital nation for all,” he added.
The event forms the official kick-off of JMD 2026, organised by the Ministry of Digital through the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). The free public programme focuses on four pillars: digital literacy and ethics, digital careers, digital freelancing, and digital business and entrepreneurship.
Activities include industry sharing sessions, practical workshops, robotics and drone demonstrations, e-sports competitions, local entrepreneur exhibitions, and on-site services such as MyDigital ID registration and Employees Provident Fund counters. MDEC aims to engage 500,000 people both physically and online across five locations nationwide.
Gobind urged Malaysians to seize the moment: “Come on, fellow Malaysians, let’s move forward together towards a brighter future!”
MD2030, unveiled by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in June 2026, sets national targets that include raising the digital economy’s contribution to GDP to 30 per cent, creating the 500,000 high-value jobs, generating RM4.5 billion in public-sector savings through digitalisation, and delivering 95 per cent of government services end-to-end online by 2030.
