MELAKA, November 5, 2026 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim campaigned alongside Pakatan Harapan’s Paya Rumput candidate Datuk Azman Abidin on Thursday night, saying Melaka’s long history as a trading hub showed that openness and togetherness must remain the foundation for the state’s future.
In a post shared on X, Anwar said Melaka had a long history as a centre of trade and a meeting point of many nations and civilisations. “The spirit of openness, togetherness and progress is what must continue to be kindled in efforts to build the future of the state and the country,” he wrote.
“With the people of Paya Rumput tonight campaigning for candidate No. 3 from Pakatan Harapan, brother Azman Abidin, I stressed that Malaysia’s strength lies in our ability to embrace diversity as a source of strength, not to make it a reason to quarrel and divide,” he said. In a world that is increasingly turbulent, he added, the peace and stability Malaysians enjoy are a great blessing that must be preserved.
Anwar said the true measure of success is when children receive a complete education, families are protected from the hardships of life, and the nation’s wealth is enjoyed by all. “That is why I will continue to be firm in fighting corruption and every form of abuse, because the people’s trust is not to be traded for personal interest,” he wrote.

He said he believed Melaka could go further if voters chose to hold to honesty, consensus and shared responsibility. “What we are fighting for is not merely today’s success, but an order of greater dignity to be passed to the next generation,” he said, tagging #PakatanHarapan and #MelakaRumahKita.
Azman Abidin, who is Anwar’s political secretary, is the Pakatan Harapan candidate for Paya Rumput (N.13) and is contesting under the PKR banner. Nomination for the Melaka state election closed on October 31, with polling day set for November 14 and early voting on November 10, according to the Election Commission (SPR).
