SEOUL, November 6, 2026 – Possible Love, the first film in eight years from acclaimed South Korean director Lee Chang-dong, begins streaming worldwide on Netflix today, the streaming service has announced.
In a post on its official X account, Netflix said the drama stars Jeon Do-yeon, Sul Kyung-gu, Zo In-sung and Cho Yeo-jeong, and follows two married couples who “cross paths to film a documentary causing them to face their different lives and hidden desires”.
The film marks Lee’s return to directing after Burning, his 2018 feature. According to Netflix, the story centres on Mi-ok (Jeon Do-yeon), who lives quietly with her laid-off husband Ho-seok (Sul Kyung-gu) and their young son. A funeral brings the family into the orbit of Ye-ji (Cho Yeo-jeong), a documentary filmmaker chronicling laid-off workers, and her husband Sang-woo (Zo In-sung), an affluent couple whose lifestyle stands in sharp contrast to their own.
When Mi-ok agrees to be filmed, she grows close to Ye-ji and finds herself uneasily drawn to the enigmatic Sang-woo. As their worlds collide, fractures begin to appear in both families’ lives.
Possible Love won the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize at the 2026 Venice Film Festival, where it had its world premiere. South Korea has also selected the film as its submission for Best International Feature Film at the 99th Academy Awards, and it has received three Gotham Film Award nominations, including Best International Feature and Outstanding Lead Performance for Jeon Do-yeon.
The film opened in select cinemas on October 23 before arriving on Netflix. Ahead of the streaming debut, Netflix released a final trailer on October 20, which opens with Mi-ok singing the lyrics “All I Know is Love”.
Possible Love is the third collaboration between Lee and Jeon Do-yeon. The pair first worked together on Secret Sunshine in 2007, for which Jeon became the first Korean actor to win Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival, and again on the 2022 short film Heartbeat, which Netflix describes as a precursor to the new feature.
“Jeon Do-yeon is the only actor who could truly embody Mi-ok. She’s not only the perfect fit for the role — she’s the character herself,” Lee said in an interview published by Netflix.
Jeon told Netflix that she is still discovering the character. “I discover something new with every watch. I’m still getting to know Mi-ok,” she said, adding that Lee has “the power to disarm you, to bring out the deepest parts of you that you want to keep hidden”.
Lee is known internationally for films including Poetry, Secret Sunshine and Burning. Netflix said the story of Possible Love was inspired by real-life labour conflicts, and that the director shelved the idea for more than a decade while weighing the ethics of telling it.
Possible Love is now streaming on Netflix.
