KUALA LUMPUR May 10, 2026 — Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has stressed that the current “keresahan Melayu” (Malay anxieties) stem from economic pressures, shifting global politics, and rapid technological changes such as artificial intelligence and automation — rather than racial hatred or communal sentiments.
Speaking at the Musyawarah Nasional event held at the Premieria Hotel in Kuala Lumpur this morning, Zahid urged that these concerns must be guided by wisdom (“hikmah”) and not inflamed by hatred.
Zahid linked his remarks to the ongoing Musyawarah Nasional initiative, which he announced will soon be formally registered as a non-governmental organisation (NGO). The platform is intended to channel Malay concerns constructively while contributing to broader multi-ethnic national dialogue.
The Deputy Prime Minister’s comments come amid continued public discussion on economic equity, job security, and the impact of emerging technologies in Malaysia’s diverse society. Observers note the address reflects the government’s push to address legitimate anxieties without stoking racial tensions.
Zahid, who is also UMNO President, has frequently emphasised inclusive approaches to national unity issues in recent public appearances.
