CYBERJAYA, MALAYSIA March 6, 2026 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is advancing the nation’s digitalization agenda by extending its Cashless Society initiative to Melaka, the Federal Territories, and Johor. This expansion was highlighted through a recent roundtable session in Cyberjaya, involving federal and state agencies, industry players, and community representatives.
Themed “Digital Trust and Community Empowerment,” the session served as a strategic platform to discuss key priorities in the digital ecosystem, including cybersecurity, digital literacy, consumer protection, and building public confidence in cashless transactions.
Attended by 70 organizational representatives, the roundtable aims to enhance digital literacy and trust, foster public confidence, and enable rural and remote communities to safely navigate the digital environment. It also aligns objectives and expectations for the Cashless Society Phase 4 in 2026 with NADI (National Digital Inclusion Centers) managers and stakeholders.
Launched in 2023 at 28 NADI locations, the initiative has grown to 174 sites nationwide by 2025, reflecting MCMC’s ongoing commitment to empowering digital communities.
In 2025, the program was bolstered with internet safety elements in line with the Safe Internet Campaign, alongside community capacity-building through Train-the-Trainer programs for NADI managers. This includes raising awareness about online risks and scams, consistent with the Online Safety Act 2025 (ONSA).
By using cashless payments as a gateway to digital services, MCMC leverages expanded coverage and improved internet quality under the JENDELA plan to ensure communities can access and optimize technology effectively.
Between 2023 and 2025, the Cashless Society initiative engaged 62,574 visitors, generated 26,022 cashless transactions, onboarded 4,572 new digital merchants at digital premises, and conducted 1,348 awareness activities based on its four core pillars.
MCMC expressed appreciation to its strategic partners, including Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad, Bank Simpanan Nasional, TNG Digital, Setel, and TM Unifi, as well as NADI managers, for their continued commitment to advancing a cashless society in Malaysia.
