WASHINGTON D.C July 29, 2026 — President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the United States will hit Iran “very hard,” declaring it is now “our turn” following an Iranian ballistic missile attack targeting U.S. forces in the Middle East.
Speaking to reporters and in comments to The Wall Street Journal, Trump confirmed that five Iranian missiles fired toward U.S. assets in Jordan were intercepted. He framed the planned American response as retaliation.
“We are going to be hitting them very hard, because it’s our turn,” Trump said. He added that Iranian officials “know it’s coming” and have asked the U.S. not to proceed, while signaling that talks are continuing alongside military preparations.
The exchange marks the latest escalation in the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict that has seen repeated rounds of strikes this year, centered on threats to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian nuclear activities, and earlier cease-fire efforts that have repeatedly broken down.
