SEREMBAN, July 29, 2026 – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today pledged to take personal charge of all issues affecting Malaysia’s Indian community, following a meet-and-greet session with community members in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.
In a post on X, Anwar said the engagement allowed him to hear directly the views, hopes and needs of the Indian community so that government policies can deliver real benefits.
“As a Malay and Muslim leader, I want to see Malaysia remain peaceful, harmonious and united so that every citizen, regardless of race or religion, can live safely, with dignity and in prosperity,” he wrote.
He affirmed that the MADANI government will continue ensuring the Indian community is not marginalised. Initiatives already underway include the empowerment of the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA), education, skills training, entrepreneurship, youth development and various welfare programmes.
Anwar also credited the Negeri Sembilan state government under Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun for supporting the community through education, welfare, economic development and community facilities.
He announced that he would personally monitor Indian community affairs at the federal level together with Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan to ensure issues are addressed more effectively.
“I have asked Ramanan to handle these matters all this while. But from now on, I will personally take charge of and monitor all issues concerning the Indian community, not only those under MITRA,” Anwar said at the “Majlis Ramah Mesra PMX Bersama Komuniti India” event. Ramanan will continue executing approved programmes, while the Prime Minister ensures overall coordination covering financing via TEKUN Nasional, Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM), guarantee schemes, and broader economic and welfare initiatives.
The session was also attended by Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, NGO leaders and local Indian community figures.
Anwar appealed to the Indian community in Negeri Sembilan to continue placing their trust in Pakatan Harapan, saying a sustained mandate would enable stronger efforts to deliver progress, justice and wellbeing for all Malaysians.
The engagement forms part of Anwar’s ongoing activities in the state ahead of the Negeri Sembilan state election on August 1.
