SEREMBAN, July 29, 2026 — Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakatan Harapan’s commitment to the welfare of all Malaysians regardless of race while defending Malay and Bumiputera rights, as he campaigned in Sikamat ahead of the Negeri Sembilan state election.
Speaking at an event in the Sikamat constituency, Anwar stressed that the coalition would continue protecting the rights of Malays and Bumiputera and upholding Islamic principles, as demonstrated under the administration of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun. He made clear, however, that this would not come at the expense of other communities.
“In Sikamat, I emphasise HARAPAN’s commitment to continue defending the welfare of the entire people without regard to race, whether Malay, Chinese, Indian, Orang Asli or other races,” Anwar said in a statement posted on his official X account.
He criticised approaches that reduce Malay advocacy to mere slogans. “Defending the Malays is not only by shouting ‘Hidup Melayu’, then insulting and questioning the loyalty of Chinese and Indians to this homeland. Justice must be upheld for all. Every loyal and devoted citizen has a place in this country,” he added.
Anwar appealed to voters in Negeri Sembilan to renew their support for Pakatan Harapan, citing the state government’s record of attracting the highest investments in its history, administering the state with integrity and cleanliness, and preserving racial harmony and unity.
“With a strong mandate, we will continue this excellence and elevate Negeri Sembilan to a higher level for the well-being of all the people,” he said.
The remarks come as Pakatan Harapan campaigns for the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election, with polling day set for August 1. Aminuddin, the coalition’s candidate for Menteri Besar, is contesting the Linggi seat after previously representing Sikamat. Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for Sikamat is Nor Azman Mohamad.
Anwar’s visit forms part of a series of campaign stops in the state as the coalition seeks to retain power following the earlier withdrawal of support by Barisan Nasional assemblymen that led to the dissolution of the state assembly.
