WASHINGTON D.C. – April 18, 2026 – President Donald Trump expressed confidence Saturday that U.S. negotiations with Iran are advancing, stressing that preventing Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon “supersedes everything else.”
In remarks shared by the White House Rapid Response account (@RapidResponse47), the president stated:
“We’re negotiating over the weekend… I expect things to go well. Many of these things have been negotiated and agreed to… The main thing is that Iran will not have a nuclear weapon. You cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon — and that supersedes everything else.”
The comments come amid ongoing U.S.-Iran talks following recent regional conflict and a ceasefire. The administration has highlighted progress on key issues, including Iran’s nuclear program, enriched uranium stockpiles, sanctions relief, and regional security concerns such as the Strait of Hormuz.
A video clip of the president’s remarks was attached to the official post, which quickly drew attention online.
While the White House signals optimism, Iranian officials have pushed back on some reported concessions, describing early-stage discussions and denying certain claims of agreements already reached. Both sides continue to negotiate under tight timelines.
The president’s firm “no nuclear weapon” red line has been a consistent theme of his approach to Iran, echoing his first-term “maximum pressure” policy now adapted to direct diplomacy following the recent ceasefire.
No final deal has been announced, but the White House indicated further updates could come in the coming days.
