KUALA LUMPUR, July 26, 2026 – Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has expressed his highest appreciation and gratitude to Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay on the occasion of his retirement from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) after almost 35 years of dedicated service to the force and the nation.
In a post on X, Zahid, who is also Minister of Rural and Regional Development, UMNO President and Chairman of Barisan Nasional, wrote: “Setinggi-tinggi penghargaan dan terima kasih saya ucapkan atas segala khidmat bakti dan pengorbanan Tan Sri sepanjang hampir 35 tahun mencurahkan jasa kepada Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) dan negara.”
He prayed for Ayob Khan’s continued good health, ease in all his affairs, and opportunities to continue contributing his experience and wisdom to the country in any future role. Zahid also wished the retiring officer a smooth transition into a new phase of life with his family and divine rewards for his sacrifices.
Ayob Khan has officially stepped down as the 29th Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIGP) yesterday. He handed over his duties during a ceremony at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) in Kuala Lumpur to Datuk Seri Ibrahim Darus, the current director of Bukit Aman’s Special Branch, who will serve as acting DIGP. The handover was witnessed by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail.
Appointed DIGP on June 23, 2023, Ayob Khan joined the police force in 1991 after graduating from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Over his career spanning more than 34 years, he held several high-profile positions, including head of the Special Branch’s counter-terrorism division, Johor police chief, director of the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, and director of the Criminal Investigation Department.
In his farewell speech, Ayob Khan stressed the importance of integrity, stating that character is everything and urging officers not to compromise. He also expressed regret over the earlier disbanding of the counter-terrorism division he once led.
IGP Mohd Khalid praised Ayob Khan’s leadership, describing it as marked by commitment, firmness and integrity, and said his determination in combating militant elements should serve as a role model for the force.
Zahid’s tribute, accompanied by a formal retirement poster featuring Ayob Khan in uniform, comes as the veteran officer closes a distinguished chapter in Malaysian policing.
