GEMAS (TAMPIN), July 26, 2026 — Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday underscored the government’s priority on housing, education and overall welfare for Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) personnel and their families while officiating the Southern Zone ATM Family Day Carnival at Kem Syed Sirajuddin.
In his social media post and remarks at the event, Zahid noted that soldiers are usually seen in camouflage uniforms ready to defend the nation, but the carnival revealed a different side — members laughing, playing sports and spending quality time with their families in a lively atmosphere.
“Behind every member serving the country, there is a family that remains their source of strength. Wives, husbands, children and all family members also sacrifice time and understand the demands of the duties carried out to ensure the security and sovereignty of the nation continue to be preserved,” he said.
Zahid stressed that looking after the welfare of ATM members also means looking after their families. He reaffirmed that the government will continue focusing on housing, education and well-being so personnel can serve with peace of mind and full dedication.
A key announcement centred on the construction of more than 1,300 new Rumah Keluarga Angkatan Tentera (RKAT) units at Kem Syed Sirajuddin, which are nearing completion. Zahid described the project as clear proof of the government’s commitment to strengthening ATM welfare.
He also called for better educational support, including proper school buses instead of lorries for children attending kindergarten, primary and secondary schools, saying that when families’ needs are met, personnel can focus fully on national defence.
Army Chief General Tan Sri Azhan Md Othman was also present. The event forms part of broader efforts to foster family bonds and community spirit among ATM members in the southern zone.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had earlier noted that RM844 million has been allocated this year under the housing services budget for repairing and developing RKAT nationwide, including the Gemas project.
Zahid closed by thanking all ATM personnel for their invaluable service and sacrifices, expressing hope that the family ties celebrated at the carnival would continue to inspire collective efforts to safeguard the nation’s peace and prosperity.
