LOS ANGELES, November 3, 2026 — Blue Eye Samurai, Netflix’s Emmy Award-winning animated series, will return for its second season on January 19, 2027, the streamer shared on X alongside a new teaser with the line “London is calling.”
The new season will have six episodes, two fewer than the eight in the first season, which premiered in November 2023. That means fans will have waited more than three years for the story to continue.
Season 2 picks up where the first season ended, with Mizu, the mixed-race master swordswoman voiced by Maya Erskine, sailing to London in search of the two remaining men who might be her father. According to Netflix’s official logline, “Mizu’s bloody quest continues in London, where she faces new friends, old foes, and her own demons.” Back in Japan, Akemi and Taigen navigate Edo Castle under a dangerous new Shogun, while Ringo searches for a new purpose.
A darker, puritanical London
Creators, writers and executive producers Amber Noizumi and Michael Green told Netflix’s Tudum site that the new setting was chosen to mirror the series’ portrait of Japan. “London in 1657 had a thriving culture of illicit activity, something that fittingly parallels our story of Japan,” they said.
“Mizu will have to navigate this dark underbelly amid a puritanical society that persecuted women as witches, closed bars and theaters, and even outlawed Christmas,” they added. “For the first time, she’ll have to confront what it’s like to stand out as Asian in a sea of white faces.”
Returning voices and new faces
Erskine returns as Mizu, joined again by Brenda Song as Akemi, Darren Barnet as Taigen and Masi Oka as Ringo. New additions to the voice cast for the second season include Jonathan Pryce, Joel Kim Booster and Sherry Cola. The first season’s cast also featured Kenneth Branagh, George Takei, Randall Park and Ming-Na Wen.
Jane Wu returns as supervising director, and the French studio Blue Spirit is again handling the animation, according to Anime.com.
Netflix has also confirmed that the story has an end in sight. Blue Eye Samurai will reach its conclusion in 2028, so fans should not face another three-year wait after the second season.
The second season will stream worldwide on Netflix from January 19, 2027. Until then, the first season of Blue Eye Samurai, which follows Mizu’s quest for revenge across Edo-period Japan, is streaming now on the service.
