PUTRAJAYA April 15, 2026 – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today joined the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Plus Online Summit on Energy Resilience at the invitation of the Japanese Government.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Anwar expressed gratitude to Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi for convening the timely virtual meeting.
“Recent developments in West Asia, particularly affecting the Strait of Hormuz, remind us that stable energy supply is critical to ensure economic resilience and safeguard the wellbeing of our people,” he said.
The summit comes at a critical time as global energy markets face uncertainty due to tensions in the region.
Anwar reaffirmed Malaysia’s strong commitment to regional cooperation through AZEC to maintain a stable, sufficient and resilient energy supply across Asia.
“As an energy producer, including liquefied natural gas (LNG), Malaysia will continue to play a constructive role in supporting regional energy security,” he added.
He also highlighted Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to diversify energy sources, including greater investment in renewable energy, while strengthening the national energy system in line with the country’s development priorities.
Two photographs accompanying the Prime Minister’s statement show him chairing the Malaysian delegation. One image captures a close-up of Anwar speaking at the meeting table with the Malaysian flag clearly visible behind him. The second provides a wider view of the conference room, with Malaysian officials seated and a large video screen displaying Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi during the online session.
The participation underscores Malaysia’s proactive stance in addressing energy security challenges through multilateral platforms like AZEC, a Japan-led initiative focused on achieving carbon neutrality and net-zero emissions across Asia.
