SHAH ALAM April 29, 2026 – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today chaired the Petaling District Development Meeting in Shah Alam, where he reviewed the progress of urgent public projects and outlined immediate solutions to pressing urban and social issues affecting residents.
During the meeting, Anwar addressed key urban management challenges, including the regulation of places of worship, waste management, and pig farming operations. He stressed the need for a more structured and effective approach to ensure these matters do not compromise public welfare.
The Prime Minister also highlighted ongoing efforts in road maintenance and flood mitigation projects. He called for swift interim actions to ease residents’ hardships while long-term flood prevention initiatives are being completed.
On the fight against poverty, Anwar was informed that hardcore poverty has been officially eradicated in Selangor. However, he emphasised that continuous monitoring is essential to prevent any family from being left behind.
“More importantly, every family must be given the opportunity to rise and be empowered through training, enabling them to generate their own income,” Anwar said in his official statement on X.
He urged that Selangor’s economic strengths be fully leveraged to uplift the standard of living for all residents.
Anwar praised the success of the SejaTi MADANI programme in the Petaling district, particularly in supporting urban poor communities, and called for its expansion. He cited several local success stories, including:
– A sewing initiative in Kampung Melayu Subang
– Kelulut honey production in Bayu Damansara
– Furniture-making in Bukit Lanchong
These community-driven projects have enabled participants to earn annual incomes ranging from RM24,000 to RM100,000.
The Prime Minister concluded by reaffirming the MADANI government’s commitment: “Insya-Allah, with the dedication of all parties, we will continue to resolve outstanding issues, strengthen existing capacities, and ensure that the benefits of development are truly felt by the rakyat.”
The meeting underscores the government’s focus on grassroots empowerment and practical solutions to improve daily lives in one of Malaysia’s most developed regions.
