PUTRAJAYA, April 29, 2026 – Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will meet the 14 Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen from Negeri Sembilan in the near future to address the ongoing political crisis in the state, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil announced today.
Fahmi, who is also the government spokesperson and Pakatan Harapan (PH) communications director, made the statement during a post-Cabinet meeting press conference. He confirmed that Zahid, who is also BN and UMNO chairman, briefed the Cabinet on the matter earlier today.
“On the position of Umno-BN state assemblymen in Negeri Sembilan, Zahid informed the cabinet that he would be meeting them soon,” Fahmi said.
The development comes days after all 14 BN/UMNO assemblymen withdrew their support for Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (PKR) on April 27. The move, announced by Negeri Sembilan BN chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, stemmed from a dispute involving the state’s Adat Perpatih customary system, royal institutions, and alleged mishandling of constitutional matters.
Despite the withdrawal, Fahmi stressed that the unity government remains stable at both federal and state levels. “The unity government at the federal level and in all states, including Negeri Sembilan, is able to function as usual,” he added.
Zahid had earlier stated that the crisis would be resolved through political negotiations, without any interference in the state administration or Negeri Sembilan’s customary adat laws. He emphasised the need to find the best solution to ensure a stable government continues to serve the people.
Perikatan Nasional (PN) has reportedly offered to collaborate with BN to form a new state government, a move Zahid described as an opportunistic attempt to capitalise on the situation.
The state assembly sitting has been postponed indefinitely amid the turmoil, leaving Aminuddin Harun’s position in flux as the PH-led administration navigates the loss of BN support in the 36-seat assembly.
Fahmi’s announcement was echoed in an official broadcast by Berita RTM, which reported: “TPM Zahid akan jumpa ADUN BN Negeri Sembilan dalam masa terdekat” (Deputy Prime Minister Zahid will meet BN assemblymen in Negeri Sembilan soon).
Further details on the meeting’s date and agenda are expected to be released after discussions between Zahid and the assemblymen.
