TEHRAN Aug 1, 2026 — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, on Saturday, during which he warned that any aggression by the United States or Israel — or participation by regional countries in such actions — would be met with a “decisive and proportionate response” from Iran’s armed forces.
According to a statement published on Araghchi’s Telegram account and reported by multiple outlets, the two ministers discussed ongoing U.S. and Israeli actions in the region. Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security.
He stressed that any involvement or support by regional states for potential military operations against Iran would also trigger a response, placing responsibility for the consequences on those who initiate or facilitate such moves.
The call comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the U.S.-Israeli side throughout 2026, following earlier rounds of military exchanges and repeated Iranian warnings to Gulf countries against allowing their territory or facilities to be used for attacks on Iran.
Iran has maintained that it seeks good-neighborly relations with regional states while asserting its right to self-defense under international law. Saudi Arabia has previously engaged in multiple diplomatic contacts with Tehran during the ongoing regional crisis.
