SEREMBAN, Aug 1, 2026 — Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) will form the new state government in Negeri Sembilan following the August 1 state election, after receiving the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir.
BN president and Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he was summoned for an audience at Istana Hinggap in Seremban shortly after the vote count concluded.
During the meeting, Zahid presented the official election results and the agreement reached between BN and PN. With the ruler’s consent, the two coalitions will jointly govern the state.
“Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional will form the new Negeri Sembilan government,” Zahid said in a statement. He expressed gratitude for the royal consent and pledged that BN would carry out the mandate responsibly in line with the state constitution, focusing on stability, prosperity and the well-being of the people.
Unofficial Election Commission results showed BN winning 18 seats and PN securing seven, giving the alliance a combined 25 seats in the 36-seat assembly — a two-thirds majority. Pakatan Harapan, which had governed the state since 2018, was reduced to 11 seats.
Zahid reaffirmed BN’s commitment to upholding the royal institution as the symbol of state sovereignty, unity and the foundation of constitutional monarchy.
“Daulat Tuanku,” he concluded.
