LOS ANGELES May 5, 2026— Lisa Kudrow delivered a classic deadpan burn while appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, revealing juicy behind-the-scenes details about filming the beloved Friends opening credits fountain sequence.
During the May 5 episode, host Jimmy Fallon showed a photo of the cast splashing in the water and asked which Friends star was the first to jump in. Kudrow, who played Phoebe Buffay, didn’t hesitate.
“Some kiss a*s,” she quipped, sparking laughter from Fallon and the studio audience.
Kudrow explained that the title-sequence shoot — which took place at a ranch outside the Warner Bros. lot — was supposed to be quick. Instead, it dragged on until daylight. By the time the cast was told to get into the fountain, everyone was freezing, exhausted, and “too cold and angry” to laugh as the scene required.
“It was one of the guys… trying to show like, ‘Yeah, I can handle everything!’” she added, refusing to name names.
Kudrow went on to credit the late Matthew Perry (Chandler Bing) with saving the moment. His jokes eventually broke the tension and got the entire cast genuinely laughing — the exact energy fans see in the iconic sequence set to The Rembrandts’ “I’ll Be There for You.”
The clip, shared by the official @FallonTonight account on X, has already racked up hundreds of thousands of views and reignited nostalgia for the long-running NBC sitcom.
The anecdote is the latest in a string of candid Friends stories shared by the cast over the years, offering fans a glimpse into the real-life camaraderie — and occasional sass — behind one of television’s most memorable title sequences.
