JAKARTA May 6, 2026 – Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu RI) has expressed grave concern following missile and drone attacks on oil facilities in the United Arab Emirates’ eastern emirate of Fujairah on May 4.
The strikes, which the UAE attributes to Iran, triggered a large fire at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone (also known as Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone). Three people — reported as Indian nationals — were moderately injured and hospitalized. UAE air defenses intercepted most incoming missiles and drones, but at least one drone struck the critical energy hub, disrupting operations and raising fears over regional stability and global energy security.
In an official statement issued late on May 5, Kemlu RI said:
“Indonesia expresses its deep concern over the reported missile and drone strikes targeting oil facilities in the United Arab Emirates. Such attacks risk further escalating tensions, undermining the ceasefire, and disrupting global energy supply chains and broader energy security, with consequences extending well beyond the immediate region.”
The ministry urged “all parties to exercise maximum restraint, to respect the ceasefire in full, and uphold international law, including the protection of civilian infrastructure.” Indonesia also offered to support de-escalation efforts and dialogue aimed at achieving “lasting peace and stability in the region.”
The statement was posted simultaneously in English and Indonesian on the ministry’s official X account (@Kemlu_RI).
Kemlu RI also issued safety guidance to Indonesian nationals currently in the UAE:
“Indonesian nationals currently in the United Arab Emirates are advised to remain calm, stay alert, and follow the guidance of local authorities and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Abu Dhabi, and the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Dubai.”
The Fujairah incident marks a sharp escalation just weeks after a fragile ceasefire in the Gulf. The UAE has described the attacks as “a serious escalation” and reserved its right to respond. India has also condemned the strikes, calling them “unacceptable” and demanding an immediate end to hostilities targeting civilian infrastructure.
Fujairah, located on the Gulf of Oman, serves as a vital oil export terminal that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz, making it strategically important for global energy flows.
Indonesia, as a major energy consumer and proponent of peaceful resolution in the Middle East, has consistently called for restraint amid rising tensions between Iran and Gulf states.
This is a developing story. Life News Agency will continue to monitor the situation.
