Netflix has released the official music video for “Someone to Hold”, a new song by JENNIE from the soundtrack of its upcoming animated film Steps, which premieres on 20 November.
The streamer shared the video on its official X account on 6 November. The video features an animated version of the BLACKPINK star.
The track was written by Justin Tranter, Julia Michaels and Jason Gill. It is the first song released from the soundtrack, with the full album, including Kris Bowers’ original score, due out on 20 November.
“I am so excited to join the Steps family and it was really fun making my first song for an animated film! I love how much heart and personality the characters have, and I’m so happy I got to be a little part of their world,” JENNIE said in a statement.
Tranter said: “The story in Steps lends itself beautifully to a variety of voices and sonics, and the main throughline in the soundtrack is dance music. JENNIE’s ‘Someone to Hold’ is pure danceable joy.”
Steps retells the Cinderella story from the point of view of her stepsisters. Lilith, voiced by Ali Wong, steals the Fairy Godmother’s magic wand and hijacks the Royal Ball with her sister Margot, voiced by Stephanie Hsu. When the villainous Priscilla, voiced by Nikki Glaser, snatches the throne, Lilith must team up with Cinderella, voiced by Amanda Seyfried, to save the kingdom.
Bette Midler voices the Fairy Godmother, and the cast also includes Daniel Radcliffe, Young Mazino and Peter Dinklage.
The film is directed by Alyce Tzue and John Ripa and produced by Jane Hartwell, Amy Poehler and Kim Lessing for Paper Kite Productions.
Steps premieres on Netflix on 20 November and will also be released in select cinemas on the same day.
