CYBERJAYA, April 29, 2026 – – Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has given his full backing to elevate the enforcement division of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) into a full-fledged Enforcement Department.
Speaking yesterday at the launch of the National Consumer Policy 2.0 and the 54th KPDN Enforcement Day celebration here, Zahid said the division’s role has grown significantly and “the time has come” for the upgrade.
“The time has come for the Enforcement Division to be upgraded to the Enforcement Department,” he stated, adding that he would strongly support the proposal when it is tabled in the Cabinet by KPDN Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.
Zahid emphasised that KPDN enforcement officers now play a frontline role in tackling complex consumer issues, including curbing subsidy leakages, combating the rise in trade crimes — especially those involving the digital economy — and strengthening overall consumer protection.
He stressed the importance of bolstering the division’s capabilities to ensure more effective oversight, better market integrity, and enhanced protection for the public.
The proposed upgrade is expected to improve coordination, operational efficiency, and the ministry’s ability to address emerging challenges in domestic trade and consumer affairs.
The event, held on April 28, 2026, also featured a ceremonial launch attended by senior government officials and industry stakeholders.
