LABUAN, Aug 11 2026 (Bernama) — The Immigration Department detained 17 Filipinos, including five boys, during an enforcement operation carried out at two settlements in the duty-free island here early today.
Its director Mohd Redzuan Nawi said the operation codenamed Op Sasar began at 12.30am and targeted areas identified as having a high concentration of foreign nationals.
He said a total of 128 individuals were screened during the operation, which involved 73 personnel from several enforcement agencies.
“The operation resulted in the detention of 17 foreign nationals suspected of committing offences under Section 6(1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63,” he said in a statement today.
The detainees comprised eight men, four women and five boys aged between four and 56, all of whom were Philippines nationals.
Mohd Redzuan said the operation involved 29 immigration officers, six officers from the National Registration Department, 18 police personnel, eight officers from the National Anti-Drugs Agency, four members of the Civil Defence Force and eight members of the People’s Volunteer Corps.
He said all detainees would be placed at the Labuan Immigration Depot and the Labuan district police headquarters lock-up pending investigation and further action.
Mohd Redzuan said enforcement operations would continue to be conducted to detect, arrest, prosecute and deport foreign nationals found violating the country’s immigration laws, including the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Passport Act 1966 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.
