NEW YORK May 9, 2026 — The State of Qatar has strongly urged the international community to confront repeated Israeli violations in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, calling for the full implementation of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, including 2334 and 2803.
In a statement delivered during an Arria-formula meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, reaffirmed Doha’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and the two-state solution.
“The State of Qatar stressed the need for the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in confronting repeated Israeli violations and implementing relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions,” the statement read.
Sheikha Alya described the meeting — organized by the United Kingdom, France, Denmark, Greece, and Latvia — as timely amid ongoing escalation in the occupied territories, even as efforts continue to end the war in Gaza through the comprehensive peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Qatar condemned Israel’s decision to designate additional land in the occupied West Bank as so-called “state land,” labeling such measures illegal under international law and a flagrant violation of Security Council resolutions and the 2024 advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.
“Such measures constitute an assault on the viability of a Palestinian state and on the implementation of the two-state solution, and undermine ongoing efforts to achieve peace and stability, including the 20-point plan on Gaza,” the statement said.
The Qatari representative also denounced repeated incursions by Israeli officials and settlers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, including the raising of the Israeli flag within its courtyards. These actions were described as “a flagrant violation of international law and a provocation to Muslims around the world.” Qatar called for the preservation of the existing legal and historical status quo at Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites.
Additionally, Qatar condemned escalating settler violence against Palestinians, including recent attacks on schools and children, and demanded accountability for those responsible.
The statement reaffirmed Qatar’s support for “a just and comprehensive peace” based on international legitimacy, the 1967 borders, and an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
