KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA March 3, 2026 — Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today revealed in Parliament an alleged coordinated attempt to overthrow the government, backed by local supporters who are leveraging international media outlets, global institutions and even prominent Zionist figures.
Speaking during the Ministerial Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat, Anwar — who is also Finance Minister — said preliminary investigations by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) found the movement is based overseas and supported by substantial funding. Companies, organisations and individuals involved held at least six meetings throughout 2025, both in Malaysia and abroad.
“Their strategy involved gathering information and exerting influence through international roundtables and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), followed by an ‘international push’. They then alerted international media such as Bloomberg for further action,” Anwar told the House.
He added that the group contacted foreign media with the aim of questioning government efforts — particularly those of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM/MACC) — and used overseas networks to create narratives that undermine the credibility of the nation and the administration.
The alleged conspirators also reportedly exploited relationships with Members of Parliament to shape questions in the Dewan Rakyat and mobilised international media networks, especially Bloomberg, to praise individuals currently facing corruption investigations while urging respect and recognition for them.
Anwar linked the plot directly to large-scale corruption probes being carried out by the MACC. Planning is said to have begun as early as August 2024 and is expected to continue until the next General Election (PRU).
“This is not merely about criticising the Prime Minister or defending a specific individual. It challenges the entire national system with the intention of toppling the government. This is a national security issue, not a party-political matter,” he stressed.
The Prime Minister was responding to a question from Datuk Seri Shahidan Kasim (PN-Arau) on the status of police investigations into claims of attempts to destabilise the government and threaten parliamentary democracy.
Anwar said further details — including the specific role of Zionist groups — would only be disclosed once investigations are fully completed and all facts verified.
He called for wisdom and unity across all parties to safeguard the nation, citing yesterday’s bipartisan condemnation by MPs of Israeli and US strikes on Iran as an example of national solidarity.
In reply to a supplementary question from RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong), Anwar assured the House that the upcoming general election will be conducted transparently without any foreign interference. He expressed confidence that opposition leaders would not collude in such schemes and suggested the National Security Council (MKN) organise a comprehensive meeting between the government and opposition blocs to discuss the matter in depth.
The disclosure comes amid heightened political sensitivities and ongoing high-profile anti-corruption investigations in the country.
This report is based on the official Bernama dispatch and Anwar’s statements in Parliament today.
