KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 2026 — Thirty-seven areas nationwide recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 9.30am today, with Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, posting the highest level at 186.
Data from the Department of Environment’s (DOE) Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) showed the worst readings clustered in the central and southern peninsula.
In Negeri Sembilan, Nilai stood at 183 and Port Dickson at 174. In Melaka, Bukit Rambai and Melaka City both registered 184, while Alor Gajah was at 178.
Johor had eight affected areas: Segamat (183), Pasir Gudang (181), Tangkak (181), Kluang (176), Larkin (173), Pengerang (171), Batu Pahat (169) and Kota Tinggi (166).
In Selangor, Johan Setia recorded the highest reading at 183, followed by Shah Alam (178), Petaling Jaya (169), Banting (168), Klang (167) and Kuala Selangor (151). In the capital, Batu Muda stood at 171 and Cheras at 170, while Putrajaya registered 170.
Five areas in Perak were also at unhealthy levels: Tasek Ipoh (178), Tanjung Malim (173), Pegoh Ipoh (172), Seri Manjung (159) and Taiping (128).
Other readings in the unhealthy range were Rompin (170), Indera Mahkota Kuantan (162) and Temerloh (154) in Pahang; Sungai Petani (157) and Alor Setar (153) in Kedah; Minden (153), Seberang Jaya (152) and Seberang Perai (119) in Penang; and Kemaman (153) in Terengganu.
Another 31 areas nationwide remained at moderate levels.
API readings of 0 to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous.
