BATU PAHAT, Oct 9 2026 — The remand of a 16-year-old boy suspected of murdering a female classmate at a school in Yong Peng has been extended by six days, until Oct 15.
Magistrate Aimi Nawwar Mohamad Othman granted the extension at the Magistrate’s Court here today. The new remand period runs from tomorrow.
The teenager was earlier remanded for six days from Oct 4 to assist police in the investigation into the death of Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, 16.
The Form Four student, who was the suspect’s classmate, was found unconscious and covered in blood in a school hall in Yong Peng at about 5.50 pm on Oct 3. She was later pronounced dead.
Her body was sent to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital (HSNI) for a post-mortem examination. She was buried at the Kampung Parit Arshad Muslim Cemetery last Sunday after the examination was completed.
Police are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
