GERIK, June 11, 2025 – The Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway (FT04) took center stage at a joint press conference today with the Minister of Works, Dato’ Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, and the Minister of Communications, as authorities addressed concerns following a recent accident on the route.

Dato’ Sri Alexander outlined significant investments aimed at improving the safety and condition of the FT04 highway:
- 2023 Allocations: In June 2023, RM30 million was approved to reconstruct parts of FT04. An additional RM30 million was secured in August 2023 from the Prime Minister to further upgrade the Gerik-Jeli route. These funds facilitated critical maintenance and upgrades, including road resurfacing, non-pavement repairs, street furniture and bridge improvements, and streetlight or signal enhancements. Completed between July and August 2023, these works cost RM55.73 million, guided by a Pavement Condition Assessment (PCA).
- 2024 Investments: RM7.2 million has been allocated for various repairs across other sections of the route.
- 2025 Plans: A RM55 million budget is set for further rehabilitation, targeting multiple locations, including the accident site. This includes RM1 million for PCA, RM14.5 million for road furniture, RM3.5 million for streetlight installation, and RM36 million for pavement works.
The Minister also detailed broader federal road funding for Perak:
2023: RM197.6 million
2024: RM280.6 million
2025: RM275.8 million
Dato’ Sri Alexander emphasized the government’s commitment to improving road safety and infrastructure, particularly on high-risk routes like Gerik-Jeli, to prevent future incidents.
