As Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic The Odyssey hits theaters worldwide today, Hollywood icon Tom Cruise has shared glowing praise for the film following an advance screening.
Cruise posted on social media:
“Wow! To Chris, Emma, and ALL of your brilliant cast and crew. Thank you for an amazing night in a movie theater. I can’t wait to see it again!”
The message, first highlighted by film news account @DiscussingFilm, quickly spread across platforms. Accompanying images from the post show Cruise smiling while holding what appears to be an IMAX ticket, alongside a striking promotional image of a warrior in ancient Greek armor.
Cruise’s enthusiastic endorsement comes just hours before the film’s wide release on July 17, 2026. It aligns perfectly with the actor’s well-known passion for the theatrical experience, especially premium large-format screenings.
Nolan’s The Odyssey is a big-screen adaptation of Homer’s classic poem. It stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the cunning Greek king of Ithaca on his dangerous journey home after the Trojan War. Anne Hathaway plays his devoted wife Penelope, while Tom Holland portrays their son Telemachus. The star-studded ensemble also includes Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, and others.
The film was shot entirely on IMAX film cameras and carries a reported budget of around $250 million, positioning it as one of Nolan’s most ambitious projects to date. Producer Emma Thomas (Nolan’s longtime collaborator and wife) is also thanked by Cruise in his post.
Cruise’s shoutout is significant. As one of the biggest movie stars in the world and a vocal champion of cinema, his approval carries real weight—especially for a film that relies on the big-screen spectacle. Early reactions from cast and crew have already been highly positive, with Nolan and others describing the project in glowing terms during recent promotional events.
With The Odyssey now in theaters, audiences can judge for themselves whether Cruise’s excitement is warranted. Early buzz suggests it could be one of the biggest cinematic events of the year.
