VANCOUVER, CANADA June 13, 2026 – In a vibrant display of Australian passion, thousands of Socceroos supporters marched through the streets of downtown Vancouver on Saturday, transforming the city into a sea of green and gold ahead of Australia’s opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The energetic procession, captured in viral footage shared widely on social media, saw fans in team jerseys, scarves, and flags chanting and waving as they made their way toward BC Place Stadium. Under bright sunny skies, the crowd snaked through city streets, creating an electric atmosphere that turned heads and brought a taste of home to the Canadian West Coast.
The march comes hours before the Socceroos face Türkiye in Group D at BC Place. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. local time (2:00 p.m. AEST on Sunday, June 14), marking the tournament debut for both nations in the North America-hosted World Cup.
More than 10,000 Australian fans are expected in Vancouver for the match, bolstered by a strong local expat community. The turnout underscores the Socceroos’ dedicated traveling support, which has helped create a near-home environment far from Australia.
Coach Tony Popovic’s side will rely on experienced campaigners like Harry Souttar, Aziz Behich, and attacking threats to counter Türkiye’s youthful talent, including stars Arda Güler and Kenan Yıldız under coach Vincenzo Montella. Türkiye returns to the World Cup after a 24-year absence.
Vancouver is hosting its first-ever World Cup match, with both Australian and Turkish fans organizing marches to the stadium. Turkish supporters also held their own procession earlier.
The result could set the tone for both teams’ campaigns in a competitive Group D. With BC Place expected to be packed and rocking, the stage is set for a memorable opener in what promises to be a historic tournament for the Socceroos.
