PUTRAJAYA July 6, 2026 — Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) to intensify its efforts in addressing persistent problems faced by FELDA settlers, particularly second-generation housing and land ownership.
In a statement posted on his official X account today, Anwar stressed that these issues have burdened the settler community for too long and cannot be allowed to drag on. He called for immediate, focused action with settlers’ interests at the core.
“FELDA needs to multiply its efforts to resolve all issues that have long plagued FELDA settlers, especially those related to second-generation housing and land ownership,” Anwar wrote.
“These issues cannot continue to be left unresolved, and I want immediate action centered on the interests of FELDA residents, with every problem carefully examined and followed by a clear resolution plan,” he added.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the MADANI government’s commitment: “The MADANI Government will continue to strengthen FELDA as well as ensure that every initiative implemented truly benefits the settlers and their families.”
The post was accompanied by photos from a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office today, where Anwar engaged with officials on these matters.
Anwar’s statement follows his announcement yesterday (July 5) during the Jelajah Harapan Felda Bersama PMX programme in Segamat, Johor. There, he revealed plans to summon FELDA management to the PMO on July 6 to tackle long-standing issues, especially housing sites for second-generation settlers.
He noted that the government had already made a policy decision late last year to provide protection and guarantees for housing land for second-generation settlers. Key challenges include limited or stalled approvals and cases where approvals were granted without supporting infrastructure such as electricity, water supply, and drainage — preventing families from building homes.
Land matters fall under state jurisdiction while FELDA is a federal agency, requiring close federal-state coordination. Anwar outlined upcoming steps, including meetings between MPs and settler representatives within two weeks, and a federal-state meeting within a month involving state leaders to resolve jurisdictional hurdles.
Anwar has also highlighted that FELDA’s past financial difficulties stem from management and leadership issues rather than the settlers themselves. Since becoming Finance Minister in 2023, the federal government has provided nearly RM1 billion annually to address legacy debts.
Today’s directive from the Prime Minister reinforces the government’s push for concrete, time-bound solutions to improve the welfare of FELDA settlers and their families under the MADANI framework.
