PUTRAJAYA, May 26, 2026 – Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian to exchange Eid Mubarak greetings and discuss bilateral ties amid ongoing regional tensions.
In a statement posted on his official X account yesterday, Anwar said he conveyed Eid al-Adha greetings, fraternal salutations, and prayers from the Malaysian people to the Iranian nation.
“I pray that Iran will soon return to peace and that all tensions and bloodshed can be stopped through peaceful, wise and responsible diplomatic channels,” Anwar wrote.
Anwar reaffirmed Malaysia’s strong condemnation of Israeli-US military actions, including drone strikes and other aggressions that have claimed innocent civilian lives in West Asia.
He also expressed appreciation to Iran for its support in facilitating the recent release of a Malaysian vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
President Pezeshkian thanked Malaysia for its consistent position in upholding peace, justice, and humanitarian principles on the international stage. He extended an official invitation for Anwar to visit Tehran to strengthen bilateral relations and strategic cooperation.
“Insya-Allah, I will schedule a visit to Iran at an appropriate time,” Anwar responded. He added that Iran remains close to his heart, citing longstanding friendships and shared values of knowledge, brotherhood, and global humanitarian efforts
The call underscores Malaysia’s active diplomatic engagement in promoting peace in West Asia while advancing economic and strategic ties with Iran. Both nations have previously cooperated on maritime issues, including safe passage through key waterways.
This latest engagement comes as regional tensions persist, with Malaysia consistently advocating for dialogue and restraint to protect civilian lives and ensure stability.
