KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 2026 — National Sports Day (Hari Sukan Negara, HSN) 2026 celebrations at Bukit Jalil, scheduled for tomorrow, have been postponed because of haze.
The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) said a new date will be announced later, once air quality returns to levels considered safe for outdoor activities.
The ministry said the decision was made on the advice of, and with the agreement of, Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari. It also thanked His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, for his concern over the haze affecting the country.
KBS described the postponement as a precaution to reduce potential health risks to participants, organisers and the public.
“Following detailed discussions with the relevant government agencies, KBS has assessed the implications of holding a large-scale event under the current circumstances.
“The well-being of the public remains the ministry’s priority, and the public health and safety of everyone involved have been fully considered,” the statement said.
State-level and other celebrations will depend on local conditions and decisions by the respective authorities.
Celebrations in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, Kedah, Penang, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka have been postponed. Those in Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Perlis, Perak, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan will go ahead as planned.
The ministry urged Malaysians to limit outdoor activities for now and follow health advice and guidelines from the Ministry of Health and the Department of Environment.
