Information Department of Malaysia (JAPEN) Director-General Erwin Khairul Ahmad has inspected upgrading works on the department’s JAGO multi-function vehicles in Hulu Langat, Selangor, as JAPEN works to keep its mobile outreach fleet running smoothly.
In a post shared on X on the afternoon of October 29, 2026, Erwin said that he had visited the site that morning to review the upgrading works, which involve the vehicles’ LED system, public address (PA) system and electrical generator, to ensure smooth operations. Photographs accompanying the post show the Director-General inside a workshop, speaking with technicians and officers beside the open body of a truck, and examining the interior of a vehicle fitted with steel framing and mounted equipment.

What JAGO is
JAGO, short for JAPEN Arena Penggerak Komuniti (JAPEN Community Mobilisation Arena), is a multi-function vehicle (MFV) designed to take government information to the grassroots. It was launched by Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil in Cyberjaya on January 16, 2026, according to JAPEN’s official portal. At the time, Fahmi said the initiative would allow the department to deliver information in a more interactive, creative and attractive way.
Each JAGO unit is equipped with a light-emitting diode (LED) display, a public address system, camera and multimedia equipment, an additional stage and a discussion space, allowing the department to run communication programmes in a more dynamic and effective way. That makes the LED screens, sound systems and on-board power covered by this week’s upgrade central to how the vehicles work in the field.
At the launch, Fahmi said JAPEN had received four JAGO units and would receive four more. “It can be used for various events. So I see this as a very appropriate and very good investment,” he said, adding that the department would run roadshow programmes to bring information on government efforts and products to the grassroots.
16 units by 2028
According to JAPEN, a total of 16 multi-function vehicles are being acquired in stages until 2028 under the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (RMK-12), involving an allocation of RM8.8 million to strengthen the delivery of government information at grassroots level. The Hulu Langat works focus on keeping that on-board equipment in working order.
JAPEN, which comes under the Ministry of Communications, is the government’s main agency for public information at federal, state and district levels. Its district officers run community engagement programmes, explain government policies to the public and gather feedback from the ground, and mobile units such as JAGO allow the department to set up a stage, screen and sound system wherever communities gather. Erwin took the helm of JAPEN on June 22, 2026, as its 20th Director-General. He did not say in the post when the upgraded vehicles would return to service or how many units were involved in the works. The visit is the latest in a series of field engagements he has shared on X this week, following an informal session with District Information Officers attending a leadership course for the Peninsular Zone, which LNA reported on October 28.
