TEHRAN, June 10, 2026 — Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi delivered a sharp rebuke to the United States on Tuesday, accusing Washington of “testing Iran’s determination” despite alleged battlefield defeats and vowing a forceful response to any further attacks or threats.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Araghchi stated: “Despite its defeats on the battlefield, the U.S. opted to test our determination. Our Powerful Armed Forces will leave no attack or threat unanswered. Leave our region if you want to be safe. History of the Persian Gulf has many chapters on dire fates of intruding outsiders.”

The statement was accompanied by a satellite image of the Strait of Hormuz overlaid with the phrase “Forever Persian Gulf,” underscoring Iran’s claim over the strategic waterway.
The remarks come against the backdrop of a fragile ceasefire following the 2026 Iran war, which began with U.S. and Israeli strikes in late February. The conflict has shifted into a tense standoff over access to the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for roughly 20% of global oil shipments. Iran has enforced restrictions on shipping, leading to disruptions, higher oil prices, and accusations of blockade tactics.
U.S.-Iran relations remain strained after weeks of clashes involving Iranian forces targeting vessels and regional sites, with Tehran asserting its right to self-defense. Araghchi’s message echoes prior warnings from Iranian officials that any escalation would be met decisively, while signaling openness to diplomacy on Tehran’s terms.
Analysts note the post reflects Tehran’s strategy of projecting strength amid domestic and regional pressures, including a fragile post-ceasefire environment. The U.S. has maintained a naval presence in the area and warned against interference with international shipping.
No immediate response from U.S. officials was available as of late Tuesday. The situation in the Gulf remains volatile, with potential implications for global energy markets.
