TEHRAN July 6, 2026 — Video footage circulating from Iran’s multi-day funeral ceremonies for the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei shows large crowds gathered beneath a large banner featuring a close-up image of U.S. President Donald Trump.
The banner, positioned on an overpass structure above the procession route, displays Trump’s face alongside Persian text that translates to “We won’t let you go.” Russian state media outlet RT shared the clip, attributing it to Iranian state news agency Tasnim, and reported that protesters were stoning the image.
The scene occurred amid one of the largest days of public mourning, with thousands of people waving Iranian flags, red banners, and other flags while participating in the procession through central Tehran. https://x.com/RT_com/status/2074051384215838825?s=20
Khamenei was assassinated on February 28, 2026, in Israeli airstrikes targeting senior Iranian officials. His state funeral ceremonies, postponed from earlier dates, have spanned several days in July across Tehran and other cities, drawing massive crowds estimated in the millions.
Mourners have expressed strong anti-U.S. and anti-Israel sentiments, with widespread chants of “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.” Reports indicate banners and graffiti calling for the killing of President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have appeared at the events. At one gathering, a performer reportedly urged the crowd to seek revenge, telling them the world was “no longer a good place” for Trump.
President Trump has publicly addressed the large funeral crowds and ongoing tensions. He stated that Iran is “dying to settle” and noted that the U.S. had given Iran “a week off for a funeral, because we’re nice.” He also claimed the United States had “knocked the hell out of Iran.”
The combination of the massive public mourning and visible expressions of hostility toward the U.S. leadership underscores the heightened tensions following the assassination and the associated conflict. The funeral processions are scheduled to continue in the coming days, including further events in Tehran and other locations before the burial in Mashhad.
