TEHRAN Sept 19, 2026 – Iran has formally conveyed three conditions to Washington for ending the war with the United States, the country’s top security official said Saturday, adding that Tehran is now waiting for a reply from President Donald Trump.
Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, told Al Jazeera that the demands were passed to the U.S. through Qatari mediators. Consultations with Qatar and Pakistan are continuing after an earlier memorandum of understanding expired last month.
“Our conditions are an end to the war on all fronts, the release of our frozen funds and an end to the naval blockade,” Rezaei said. “We remain in contact with the mediator Qatar, which has conveyed our conditions to Washington with the aim of ending the war. We are awaiting President Trump’s response.”
He argued that accepting the terms would serve Washington’s interests and dismissed U.S. threats as ineffective. “Trump’s threats will not achieve any results. We are prepared for a decisive war,” he said.
Rezaei said Iran wants fighting to stop not only between Tehran and Washington but also in linked regional conflicts, including the war in Yemen involving the Houthis and Saudi Arabia. He added that Iranian forces had shifted planning toward U.S. naval assets in the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman and Arabian Sea, and recently test-fired an anti-ship missile near a U.S. aircraft carrier. If attacked again, he said, Iran would strike U.S. bases and American interests in the region.
The comments come after months of on-and-off diplomacy following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran earlier this year. Tehran has previously tied any reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and a broader settlement to similar demands, including the release of frozen assets. Rezaei said Iran has not decided to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, though further pressure could change that calculation.
There was no immediate public response from the White House. Trump said earlier this week that he believed the conflict could be nearing its end and that Iran wanted an agreement.
