November 7, 2026 — The Attorney General has sought consent for an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim to seek His Majesty’s forgiveness and express his stand to comply with His Majesty’s decree on Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s conditional pardon, the Prime Minister’s Office said on Saturday.
In a media statement shared by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on X at 5.59pm, the Prime Minister’s Office said the Attorney General today sought consent to have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim to seek His Majesty’s forgiveness and express his stand to comply with His Majesty’s decree on the Conditional Pardon Order for Najib in the SRC International case.
The Prime Minister’s Office said the Attorney General will also explain the legal question arising from the High Court’s Order of Discharge following payment of the RM50 million fine, which needs to be decided by the court because it affects the start date of the prison sentence in the 1MDB case.
The statement did not say whether consent had been granted or when any audience would take place.
Background
Earlier on Saturday, Istana Negara said disputing the conditional pardon order tends towards defying the order of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
In a media statement on November 7, the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) said it is not disputing, setting aside or seeking to suspend the Conditional Pardon Order and that the legal effect of the 6 November 2026 Order of Discharge should be referred immediately to the court.
Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said in Kulim that the best interpretation should be made in court, adding that the ministry is bound by the Attorney General’s advice.
