MELAKA, Nov 7 (Bernama) —The Ministry of Communications plans to open more media centres for the upcoming Sarawak state election next month.
Deputy Minister of Communications Teo Nie Ching said this initiative is being taken by the Ministry due to the vast geographical area of Sarawak, which encompasses several distinct zones.
“I believe more than one media centre will be established so that we can provide better services to our media colleagues,” she said after inspecting the Ministry of Communications’ media centre in Ayer Keroh here today.
“If we were to set up only one media centre in Kuching, it would not be sufficient for those who need to cover areas like Miri, Sibu, and others.”
Also present was the state Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) director, Khairul Nizam Mohd Mostar.
Yesterday, the Election Commission (EC) announced that polling day for the 13th Sarawak state election will be on Dec 12, with nomination day set for Nov 28 and early voting on Dec 8, with the campaign period spanning 14 days.
Meanwhile, Teo also expressed her appreciation to the media personnel covering the 16th Melaka state election, noting that they are working despite tomorrow being a public holiday for Deepavali.
“We are aware that tomorrow is Deepavali, a public holiday yet our media colleagues cannot take the day off as they must remain on duty throughout the Melaka state election. So, I also extend my heartfelt thanks to them,” she said.
The Election Commission (EC) has set November 14 as the polling day for the Melaka state election, with early voting scheduled for November 10.
