SHAH ALAM Sept 20, 2026 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim honoured early Reformasi pioneers and longtime comrades on Sunday, saying their sacrifices made it possible for him to serve as prime minister while stressing that the fight for change is not finished.
Anwar and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, attended the Perintis Reformis Reunion Hi-Tea at the Selangor International Trade Centre (SITC) in Shah Alam. In a post afterwards, he described an emotional reunion with the veterans who had endured hardship and sacrifice since the Reformasi movement began in 1998.
“How could Azizah and I ever forget the contributions and sacrifices of each and every one of them, because without your strength, courage and fighting spirit, I would not be standing here today bearing the responsibility as Prime Minister,” he wrote.
Anwar said the struggle remains incomplete. He urged the group to rekindle their existing spirit, avoid fatigue or resentment, and pass the message of change to their children, families, friends and the next generation. Reform, he added, still requires courage, patience and unyielding resilience.
“We may grow older and our pace may slow down, but our spirit must never fade. We have fallen, lost and suffered, but we also know how to rise again. Lawan tetap lawan,” he concluded, using the long-standing Reformasi slogan. The post carried the hashtags #MalaysiaMADANI and #YakinMADANI.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari also attended the gathering. Photos from the event showed Anwar greeting elderly supporters, including some in wheelchairs, and posing with vintage newspapers from the Reformasi era.
