KOTA BAHRU, MALAYSIA June 17, 2026 — AirAsia has officially commenced operations on its new direct route between Kota Bharu (KBR) and Jakarta (CGK), marking a significant boost to connectivity between Malaysia’s Kelantan state and Indonesia’s capital.
The low-cost carrier is operating four weekly flights on the route using Airbus A320 aircraft. Flights depart Kota Bharu at 10:00 AM local time, arriving in Jakarta at 11:40 AM, with the return leg leaving Jakarta at 12:10 PM and arriving back in Kota Bharu at 3:50 PM. The flight duration is approximately 2 hours 40 minutes.
The inaugural flight was celebrated with a traditional water salute on the tarmac at Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Kota Bharu. Airport officials and representatives also welcomed arriving passengers in the arrival hall with traditional Malaysian hospitality, including gift bags.
This new service is AirAsia’s 20th route to Indonesia and is expected to strengthen business ties, family connections, and tourism between the two regions. Kota Bharu, known for its rich cultural heritage and proximity to popular attractions in Kelantan, now offers easier access for Indonesian travelers, while Malaysians gain convenient direct access to Jakarta’s vibrant economy and tourist spots.
Promotional fares from as low as RM199 one-way were offered during the booking period, with ongoing competitive pricing available on AirAsia’s website and app.
The launch comes shortly after upgrades to Kota Bharu Airport, further enhancing its capacity for international flights and supporting regional economic growth.
