KUALA LUMPUR, November 4, 2026 – Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil joined Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Mega Bazaar Deepavali in Brickfields, describing the evening as lively with light, colour and a spirit of togetherness ahead of the festival of lights.
In a post shared on X on Wednesday evening, Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesman, said he had accompanied the Prime Minister to the bazaar that afternoon. “Deepavali brings a message about light and hope, and it must be translated into good that the people can feel,” he wrote in Malay.
Photographs attached to the post show Fahmi with Anwar among traders and visitors at the bazaar, including moments of laughter at a table with supporters and a presentation of festive Deepavali MADANI gifts on a stage with a welcome backdrop for the Prime Minister.
STR Phase 4 and aid for all communities
Fahmi said Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) Phase 4 involves RM1.1 billion for about five million recipients of various communities, including 630,000 recipients from the Indian community. He framed the aid as part of turning Deepavali’s message of light and hope into practical help that families can feel.
The same Brickfields visit was also used by the Prime Minister to announce the staged payout of STR Phase 4. As reported earlier by Life News Agency from Anwar’s own post, the MADANI Government said the RM1.1 billion phase was being channelled to millions of recipients from November 4 until November 6, 2026, including more than 630,000 recipients from the Indian community.
MITRA allocation raised to RM150 million
Fahmi also noted that the allocation for the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA) had been raised to RM150 million. At the same Mega Bazaar Deepavali programme, Anwar stressed that government support for the Indian community was not limited to MITRA alone, pointing also to mainstream schemes such as STR, as well as financing channels through TEKUN Nasional and Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia, according to reports by Bernama-linked outlets including Berita RTM and Free Malaysia Today.
A Ministry of Finance photo note on the Ramah Mesra Deepavali programme likewise recorded the RM1.1 billion STR payout to more than five million recipients, including 630,000 from the Indian community, and said the government was strengthening support through a RM150 million MITRA allocation, among other measures.
A shared future in a diverse country
Closing his message, Fahmi wrote that in a diverse country such as Malaysia, people may differ in ethnicity, religion and culture, but they share the same future. He ended with Deepavali greetings — “Deepavali Nal Valthukkal!” — and the hashtags #MalaysiaMADANI and #YakinMADANI.
Brickfields, often called Kuala Lumpur’s Little India, has long been a centre of Deepavali shopping and community celebration. Fahmi’s post presents the minister’s own account of accompanying the Prime Minister there, tying festive goodwill to concrete cash aid and community development allocations announced around the same visit.
