MELAKA, November 4, 2026 – Pakatan Harapan’s Kelebang candidate Farzana Hayani Mohd Nasir has said age should not be the yardstick for choosing a candidate, arguing instead that ability to fight for people’s aspirations should matter more.
Known as Nana, the 26-year-old told Bernama that a candidate’s performance should be judged by the service they can give the community and how far they can solve problems in their area. “For Nana, age is not the measure on its own. We have to assess based on work on the ground and so on,” she said, according to Bernama’s report published on November 4, 2026.
Citing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as an example, Farzana said that even though she described him as 80 years old and still energetic, those who were “only 26” should take that as a reason to work harder and more aggressively. Life News Agency notes that Anwar’s age as stated by Farzana is her own characterisation as carried by Bernama.
Second contest, four-cornered fight
On her second candidacy, Farzana said she was more prepared than when she first contested Sungai Rambai in Melaka’s 15th state election in 2021. She said that in Kelebang she was moving as Angkatan Muda Keadilan Tangga Batu chief and had not initially aimed to be a candidate again, but was entrusted once more by the Pakatan Harapan chairman.
“So the groundwork has already been focused earlier, and as a Bukit Rambai native I have already identified several problems related to paddy farmers, fishermen and so on,” she said, as quoted by Bernama. Those local problem claims are her campaign statements and have not been independently verified by Life News Agency.
According to Bernama, Farzana faces a four-cornered fight in Kelebang against Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Lim Ban Hong, Bersatu’s Datuk Seri Mohamad Ali Mohamad and Parti Bersama Malaysia’s Young Jie Yu. Bernama reported that early voting is on November 10, 2026 and polling day on November 14, 2026.
The Melaka election covers 28 state seats and a 14-day campaign after nominations on October 31, 2026. Farzana’s comments form part of Harapan’s youth-facing messaging as parties compete for voters ahead of early voting.
