DOHA, QATAR April 17, 2026 – The State of Qatar has officially welcomed the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, describing it as a significant step toward de-escalation and regional stability.
In a statement issued on April 16, 2026, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed hope that all parties would fully and immediately comply with the ceasefire to maintain calm and prevent any further escalation of tensions in the region.
The Ministry specifically thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for his mediation efforts and “good offices” that helped bring about the deal.
“Qatar appreciates the efforts of HE President Donald Trump of the friendly United States of America in mediation and good offices that contributed to reaching the deal,” the statement read.
Qatar also voiced optimism that the announcement would bolster ongoing regional and international efforts to achieve a “comprehensive, just, and sustainable peace” across the Middle East.
The statement comes one day after President Trump announced a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, effective April 16 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time, following high-level talks involving Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.
Qatar has long positioned itself as a key mediator in regional conflicts, including previous Israel-Hezbollah tensions and Gaza-related negotiations.
