ISKANDAR PUTERI, Sept 6 2026 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has denied claims of a rift or dispute with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, saying Barisan Nasional (BN) remains committed to ensuring the country’s political stability until the end of the current term.
He said there were no problems between them, either personally or in their official capacity, including during Cabinet meetings and other official government functions.
“I do not have any problems, whether personally or officially. What is important for Barisan Nasional as one of the components in the Unity Government of Malaysia is political stability in this country until the end of the term. We carry out the decision-making process and reach decisions professionally,” he said.
Zahid was responding to a Bloomberg report which claimed that ties between the two leaders had grown tense, resulting in recent Cabinet meetings being shorter than usual.
The report attributed the alleged tension to Zahid’s decision for BN to contest against Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the recent Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.
The BN chairman said the coalition’s commitment to remain in the Unity Government until the end of the term was in line with a resolution of the UMNO General Assembly.
He added that political stability was vital to preserve foreign investor confidence in Malaysia and to support the country’s economic growth.
“We know that the UMNO General Assembly resolution has determined that we remain in the Unity Government of Malaysia until the end of the term. This is what we are doing so that there is full political stability, to avoid any problems, especially involving foreign investors,” he said.
Zahid said claims of problems between BN’s leadership and the Prime Minister did not reflect the actual situation.
