KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA April 7, 2026 — The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) held its monthly meeting on April 6, 2026, and received a briefing on the latest developments regarding the impact of the conflict in West Asia on the global energy crisis and the potential oil supply issues that Malaysia may face after May.
The meeting discussed the overall impact of the crisis as well as other current issues, resulting in several key resolutions.
According to the media statement signed by DAP Secretary-General Loke Siew Fook, the main resolutions are as follows:
1. Direct all DAP leaders and elected representatives to explain to grassroots communities the seriousness of the global energy crisis currently affecting us, and the need for all parties to take steps to conserve energy and use vehicles prudently to reduce demand for oil.
2. Support the government’s ongoing efforts to manage this global crisis effectively for the sustainability of the national economy and the people’s livelihood, while ensuring national resources are managed responsibly.
The energy crisis stems from the conflict in West Asia (including tensions in the Middle East involving key shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz), which has caused global oil prices to surge and disrupted supply chains. The Malaysian government has previously stated that the country’s petrol supply remains secure until May 2026, but the situation could become more challenging if the conflict prolongs.
Other resolutions adopted at the DAP CEC meeting include:
3. Direct the party’s representatives in the Special Select Committee on the Separation of Powers of the Attorney General to ensure that improvements to the **Federal Constitution (Amendment) Bill (No. 2) 2026** — aimed at separating the roles of the Attorney General and the Public Prosecutor — are completed promptly and tabled in Parliament during the June sitting.
4. Urge the government to continue its policy of automatically placing all excellent SPM 2025 students who scored 10A and above into matriculation programmes, while giving due consideration to other excellent students according to available capacity.
5. Support the government’s firm and strict actions against drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol who cause deaths, without favouritism. This is to send a strong message to all drivers to always act responsibly for the collective safety on the roads.
The fifth resolution aligns with recent public calls following several fatal accidents involving drunk or drug-impaired drivers. The Ministry of Transport is reportedly reviewing amendments to the Road Transport Act 1987 to impose heavier penalties.
Loke emphasised that DAP remains committed to cooperating with the government in addressing these global challenges, while ensuring that institutional reforms and the welfare of the people — particularly excellent students and road safety — are not overlooked.
