KOTA KINABALU, SABAH, MALAYSIA March 24, 2026 – Malaysia’s petrol, diesel and LPG supply remains stable and sufficient with no shortages nationwide, including in Sabah.**
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali made the assurance following a courtesy call on Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Haji Noor at Menara Kinabalu here today.
During the meeting, Armizan briefed the Chief Minister on the outcomes of the High-Level Coordinating Committee Meeting to Combat Leakages and Smuggling Among Enforcement Agencies (JTPAP), which has been activated to strengthen enforcement efforts.
“JTPAP has been activated as a proactive measure to curb smuggling and diversion of fuel, particularly in border areas including Sabah,” he said.
He explained that the risk of leakages has increased due to the conflict in West Asia and the wide price gap between subsidised fuel in Malaysia and market prices as well as retail prices in neighbouring countries.
Armizan also dismissed rumours of fuel shortages at several petrol stations in Sabah, which had been linked to supply disruptions in neighbouring countries.
“As of now, there is no shortage of petrol, diesel and LPG supply in the country. Current supplies are sufficient and Malaysia’s situation is more stable compared to several other countries, including in the region,” he stressed.
He clarified that the issues being circulated were isolated cases related to logistics causing delivery delays of a few hours in certain locations, especially during the festive season which saw increased demand.
“These matters have been addressed and continuous monitoring is being carried out to ensure smooth delivery of supplies,” he added.
In view of this, Armizan advised the public against panic buying as fuel supplies are fully guaranteed.
He also reminded the public that selling or filling fuel into anything other than vehicle tanks without a special permit is an offence under the Supply Control Act 1961, particularly the Supply Control Regulations 1974 and the Supply Control (Amendment) Regulations 2021.
“The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) will not compromise and will take strict action against any party that violates the regulations,” he warned.
The public is encouraged to channel any suspicious activities through the official KPDN complaint channels, while petrol station operators are reminded to strictly comply with the rules and report any violations to the authorities.
