KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, June 24, 2025 – Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel. President Pezeshkian affirmed Iran’s readiness to halt military actions and pursue peace, provided Israel ceases attacks on Palestinian territories and Iranian sovereignty.

During the call, Pezeshkian urged Anwar to convey Iran’s stance to other Islamic nations, countering biased narratives and clarifying the context of Iran’s retaliatory actions.

Malaysia strongly condemned Israel’s attacks on Gaza and Iran, which have claimed civilian lives, senior military leaders, and Iranian scientists. Anwar described these actions as violations of humanitarian principles and international law.

While denouncing violence as a solution, Malaysia acknowledged Iran’s legitimate right to self-defense against sovereignty violations. Anwar criticized the hypocrisy of recognizing Israel’s strength while denying Iran’s right to protect itself.

Malaysia welcomed Iran’s commitment to seek peace with all parties, including the United States and Israel, provided justice and sovereignty are upheld. Anwar emphasized that only through diplomacy and negotiations can a comprehensive resolution be achieved to prevent prolonged conflict.
