DOHA, QATAR February 28, 2026 – Qatar Airways has extended the temporary suspension of all flights to and from its hub in Doha due to the continued closure of Qatari airspace, the airline announced today.
In an official update posted on X, Qatar Airways Group stated that operations will remain halted until midnight UTC (3:00 AM Doha time on March 1) as a direct result of the airspace shutdown. The carrier is coordinating closely with Qatari government authorities and relevant stakeholders to resume services at the earliest opportunity.
“Once operations resume, passengers should expect delays, and are advised to check the latest flight information on qatarairways.com or via the Qatar Airways app,” the statement read.
At Hamad International Airport, additional ground staff have been deployed to assist affected passengers, with the airline providing necessary support to minimise disruption. Qatar Airways emphasised that the safety and well-being of passengers and crew remain its top priority.
Passengers with bookings in the next seven days are eligible for refunds or date changes. The airline urged travellers to monitor official channels for real-time updates.
The airspace closure comes amid heightened regional tensions following reported US and Israeli strikes on Iran, which prompted retaliatory actions including missile strikes targeting US military installations across the Gulf. Explosions were reported in several locations, including areas near Doha, leading Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait and other nations to temporarily close their airspace.
This has triggered widespread travel chaos, with major carriers including Emirates, Etihad, and others also suspending or rerouting flights. Thousands of passengers worldwide have faced cancellations, diversions and delays.
Qatar Airways operates one of the world’s largest long-haul networks, connecting over 170 destinations. Hamad International Airport serves as a key global transit hub, handling millions of passengers annually.
