KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA February 27, 2026 – In a gesture of national appreciation, Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim invited seven young men to break their fast at the Seri Perdana Complex on February 27, honoring their courageous rescue of a mother and her two young children from a car that plunged into Tasik Biru in Kundang, Rawang.
The incident occurred around midnight on February 25, when the vehicle carrying the woman in her 40s and her daughters, aged three and six, veered off the road and into the lake. Alerted via a community WhatsApp group, the seven rescuers quickly arrived at the scene and formed a human chain in the dark waters to reach the sinking car. They pulled the children out through the sunroof before saving the unconscious mother, completing the rescue in about 15 minutes amid panic and fear. The family was subsequently rushed to Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.
One of the rescuers, Mohamad Faham, described the tense moments during the operation, highlighting the group’s determination despite the risks. Local villagers have since raised concerns about the absence of guardrails around the lake, noting it as a contributing factor to recurring accidents in the area.
In his social media post following the iftar event, Anwar praised the youths’ swift and selfless actions as a reflection of noble humanitarian values and a high spirit of compassion. “Their unwavering commitment to risking their own safety to save others’ lives is a mirror of exalted human values and an extremely high spirit of kindness,” he wrote. He emphasized that such bravery should be celebrated and emulated by society at large.
During the gathering, the Prime Minister presented the group with tokens of appreciation for their service. “Indeed, these seven young men are not only heroes to the rescued family, but also symbols of moral nobility, humanity, and the spirit of solidarity among Malaysians who are always ready to help regardless of background,” Anwar added, using hashtags like #MalaysiaMADANI, #MADANIbekerja, and #IslahMADANI to underscore the event’s alignment with national unity initiatives.
The story has garnered widespread admiration online, with netizens hailing the rescuers as exemplars for young people. This act of heroism and the subsequent recognition highlight the everyday solidarity that binds Malaysian communities, even in the face of danger.
